Overview

Hallway Test ("Hallway Test", "we", "us") operates an MCP server and related services that let a coding agent commission a real person to try a product task, then return a recording, transcript, and friction points back into that agent's context.

This policy explains what we collect, why, and what control you have — whether you're a customer commissioning tests, or a tester completing them. It applies to hallwaytest.dev, our dashboard, our MCP server, and any related apps.

Information we collect

From customers

  • Account details: name, work email, password hash, and organization name.
  • Billing details: billing address and payment method, processed by our payment provider — we never store full card numbers.
  • Task submissions: the flow you ask us to test, the URL or build under test, and any instructions you give the tester.
  • Usage data: pages visited in the dashboard, MCP calls made, and device/browser information.

From testers

  • Profile details: name, email, and payout information for compensation.
  • Session data: the screen and voice recording of a completed task, plus any written notes the tester adds.
  • Device information needed to match tasks to compatible devices and browsers.

Session recordings

The core of the service is a recorded session: a tester's screen and voice while they complete the task a customer submitted. Because of what that involves, we treat recordings as sensitive by default.

Testers are shown the task and asked for explicit, informed consent before every recorded session. A tester can stop a recording at any point, and can request removal of a specific session after the fact.

Customers are responsible for not routing testers through flows that require entering real payment details, government identifiers, or other sensitive data that isn't necessary to evaluate the task. We reserve the right to reject or redact any task that asks for this.

Recordings and transcripts are made available only to the customer who commissioned the task and to Hallway Test staff who need them to operate or moderate the service.

How we use information

  • To match tasks to available testers and deliver completed sessions back to the requesting customer's agent.
  • To generate transcripts and extract friction points from recordings using automated processing.
  • To operate billing, pay testers, and prevent fraud or abuse of either side of the marketplace.
  • To improve matching quality, task briefing, and the reliability of the MCP server itself.
  • To communicate service updates, security notices, and, where you've opted in, product news.

How we share information

We don't sell personal information. We share it only as needed to run the service:

  • Between customers and testers — a completed session (recording, transcript, friction points) is shared with the customer who commissioned it; a task brief is shared with the tester who accepts it.
  • Service providers — hosting, storage, transcription, and payment processors who handle data on our behalf under contract, and only to the extent needed to provide their service.
  • Legal & safety — where required by law, or to investigate fraud, abuse, or a safety report involving a tester or customer.
  • Business transfers — if Hallway Test is acquired or merges with another company, subject to the same commitments described here.

Data retention

We keep session recordings and transcripts for as long as the associated account is active, or as needed to resolve a dispute, after which they're deleted on a rolling schedule. Account and billing records are kept for as long as required for tax and accounting purposes. You can request earlier deletion at any time; see Your rights and choices.

Security

Recordings, transcripts, and account data are encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is limited to systems and staff who need it to operate the service, and every access to a raw recording is logged. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep these protections current.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Testers can additionally request that a specific recording be deleted after a session is complete, subject to any dispute or fraud review already in progress.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Contact us. We'll respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

International data transfers

We and our service providers may process data in countries other than the one you live in. Where that involves a transfer out of the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we rely on recognized safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Children's privacy

Hallway Test is intended for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, whether as a customer or a tester. If you believe a minor has provided us data, contact us and we'll remove it.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember dashboard preferences, and a small set of analytics cookies to understand how the product is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may affect how the dashboard works.

Changes to this policy

We'll update the effective date above whenever this policy changes, and post material changes here before they take effect. Continued use of Hallway Test after a change means you accept the updated policy.
